XP DEUS II coils: choose the right FMF size

Match the coil to your ground, not to the price. For most DEUS II owners the 11-inch FMF is the balanced default; the 9-inch FMF works better in trashy, tight sites; and the 13x11-inch FMF covers open ground faster. All three are Fast Multi Frequency coils made for the DEUS II.

Which DEUS II coil should you buy?

Start with the detector: these standard FMF coils are listed for the DEUS II (and ICON / ICONX), so confirm you own a DEUS II before buying. Then pick by how you hunt:

  • 9-inch FMF - best in iron-infested, tight or heavily hunted ground where separation matters more than coverage.
  • 11-inch FMF - the balanced all-rounder most owners leave on for parks, fields and beaches.
  • 13x11-inch FMF - more ground covered per sweep on open sites, at the cost of weight and maneuverability.

If you are chasing tiny gold or want the high-frequency option instead, compare the HF2 and HF coils. To round out the detector, see headphones and controllers and the MI-6 pinpointer.

What already comes in the box

The manufacturer lists the 9-inch coil as delivered with a coil cover, while the 11-inch and 13x11-inch coils are listed with a coil cover and lower stem (the 13x11 with a carbon lower stem). Check the exact listing before buying a separate cover or stem you may already receive.

Checking compatibility before you buy

These standard FMF coils are listed for the DEUS II and ICON / ICONX. Do not assume a coil from the older DEUS or ORX will behave the same on a DEUS II - the high-frequency coils in particular are different parts. If you are weighing a high-frequency coil, read HF2 vs HF first.

If the coil will not charge

If the coil battery will not charge, work through the basics before assuming a fault: use the official XP charging cable or clip, make sure the contacts are clean and dry, and watch for the charge LED. Follow the current official DEUS II instructions for the exact steps - do not open the coil or substitute a battery from another XP series.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need more than one coil for the DEUS II?

No. One coil covers most hunting; add a second size only when the ground calls for it. If you are after tiny gold, look at the high-frequency coils instead.

How do I check which coil fits my detector?

Confirm your detector is a DEUS II (not the older DEUS or ORX), then match the coil listing to that model. Coils for the DEUS and ORX are separate parts.

Which charging cable does the coil use?

Use the official XP DEUS II charging cable or clip and follow the current official instructions. Do not reuse a charger from a different XP series.
